Meeting held at My Father’s Place Restaurant in Oneonta
(14) HOPS Members in attendance with about ten beverages sampled
Many orders of business were discussed including:
- A field trip is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the Price Chopper parking lot going to Binghamton Brew Works, Water Street Brewing, and Galaxy Brewing. It is to be confirmed that Barb will have a minivan, but if not, those who meet at the designated place and time will car pool.
- The HOPS for Harmony event is scheduled for Sunday, November 1 at the B-Side in Oneonta with entries to be either Oktoberfest or pumpkin style beers. The following (8) people are currently signed up: Chris, Chris & Frank, Wes & Mike, Dale, Todd & Susan, Matt, Jim, and Bob. We will follow up with the Mohawk home brew club, Bernie, and Andrew as we need to get the total to 10 brewers for the event.
- The next charity event is to be scheduled for late spring and will be HOPS for Heroes at Council Rock benefitting the Wounded Warrior project.
- There were many interesting beers samples this meeting including:
- Production error Koelsch – All grain, but never boiled. Not bad at all, but had a slight creamed corn smell.
- Koelsch by Chris – Started to lager, but did not wait long enough so the beer only partially fermented and has a sweet taste to it.
- Cherry Apple Cider by Frank – Still young, slightly sour, and should age well.
- Updog by Chris and Frank via Council Rock – Fine beer now on tap at Council Rock by the winners of the HOPS for Hounds competition
- Brown by Jim at Blind Guy Brewing – very nice beer
- Oatmeal Stout by Nate – Very tasty
- The next meeting is to be held on the third Friday of the month on October 16 at Bob and Barb’s house. The address is 319 Bliss Gulf Road Oneonta.
