December’s “Meeting”
Since many members won’t be able to make this month’s meeting, we will be following suit of last year’s December Meeting and hold an informal ‘Brews and Banter’ at MFP this Friday, December 20th, @ MFP @ 6:30pm. Many will be traveling on the road, at family gatherings, employee parties, etc… but if any members would like to gather, please feel free to do so! (Just promise not to bring anything mind-blowing to share…January’s meeting is just around the corner! ha!)
Big Brew Day (BBD) 5.0
Once again, our 5th installment of BBD was a SMASH HIT… well..actually there was some crystal malt in there, but what a great BBD 6.0 idea! Anyway… the Big Red Ale was comprised of Maris Otter Base, some CaraRuby Crystal, and a touch of Carafa III for deep red colors. The wort was lightly hopped (sorry Ken and Mike) and dispensed into 11 different carboys, where they will await a wide array of yeast strains! BBD Brewers have agreed that the official tasting of these will be reserved for our January Meeting. So, please hold off bringing a large amount of other beer samples for the January Meeting, as we will want to reserve and preserve our palates for each of these 11 brews. It is quite rare that we, as a club, have access to taste 11 separate strains of yeast that all showcase the exact same malt and hop profile. This will be one meeting you won’t want to miss.
Upcoming Events
The Cereal Killer Brew: February will mark the month where those who are wanting to showcase a beer where 10% of the mash is made from a box of cereal of your choosing! This is open to any members who want to experiment with this challenge. Bring your samples…we’ll provide the bowls and spoons!
Bangers and SMASH: During April we will host a “Friends and Family” Brew Festival. Brats and SMASH (Single Malt and Single Hop) beers will be the theme, so if you’d like to participate, plan on bringing 3-5 gallons of your favorite SMASH pairing brews and invite everyone you know. Exact Date and Location TBD.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe Holiday; and most importantly, you are clinking pints with those you love most this season!
Cheers!
