Meeting held at the Vet’s Club in Oneonta with (12) HOPS Members in attendance.
Many orders of business were discussed including:
· HOPS Brew Club yearly dues will be increased to $5 for the year. This will cover club insurance and, something new that will begin next meeting, commercial beer samplings for the club based on the suggested beer style of the month. Dues will be collected starting with the next meeting in February.
· The suggested beer style of the month, as discussed to encourage different group members can bring the same style beers for tasting at the monthly meetings (though any style beverage is always welcome) include:
o February – Cereal beer (homebrews made with some actual store bought cereal)
o March – Irish Red – BJCP style 15A
o April – Saison – BJCP style 25B
o May – Koelsch – 5B
o June – IPA – 21A
o July – Weissbier – 10A
o August – British Brown – 13B
o September – Belgian Blonde - 25A
o October – Oktoberfest/Marzen – 6A
o November – Doppelbock – 9A
o December – Christmas/Special Winter – 30C
o January – American Barley Wine – 22C
· We now have the Instagram account "HOPSBrewClub". Also created "[email protected]" as the address for members to send photos they would like published. The main rules for providing photos is that they either 1) be submitted by the person who took the photo, or 2) send with the photo the explicit permission of the image copyright holder allowing the club to use the photo on Instagram, Facebook, other social media, advertisements and other club literature. Photos sent to the account should clearly state who took the photo, and provide some context for the photo so we can make a description and include appropriate tags. Photos will be posted and/or removed at the sole discretion of HOPS officers.
· HOPS Brew Club now has a Facebook page, so please Like the page and you can have yet another way to get info on upcoming events and happenings.
· Farmhouse Brewery, 14 George St, Owego, NY, is scheduled to have a Homebrew Showdown competition the third Sunday in March.
· There will be an officer’s meeting at the Sixth Ward Athletic club on Wednesday, February 1 at 6:00 to discuss the details of the next fund raiser/home brew competition to be held in the May time frame.
· There were many, many interesting beers sampled at this meeting including:
o Rose hip chamomile mead from Frank
o Imperial Coffee Stout from Chris C.
o Centennial & Citra IPA from Chris C.
o Wheat Beer from Karen
o Oktoberfest by Pete
o Matt brought some Cider
o Barb & Bob’s Willow Creek IPA
o Jim also brought an IPA
o Bob shared an Abita Bourbon Street Honey Pale Ale that needs some more aging time
* The March meeting would usually be on March 17, but do to this being St. Patrick’s Day, it will be moved to March 24.
* The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 17, at 6:30 at a location to be determined. If you made any cereal beers, bring them along as a trophy may be involved.
** Please note that your attendance is always welcomed, whether or not you have a beer to share. So please do not let that deter you from attending as we always have more than enough beer to share and are looking for more people to share it with.
