Many orders of business were discussed including:
- The club voted on nominees for President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. These positions will be voted on at the November meeting in sequential order, so that the ones who are running for President that do not get the position can be considered for Vice President, and so on down the line.
- President – Chris Haddock, Frank Woodcock, Barb Monroe, and Karen Duheme
- Vice President – Matt Brown, Chris Haddock, and Frank Woodcock
- Treasurer – Chris Haddock, and Chris Cleveland
- Secretary – Matt Brown and Todd Snelson
- Teach a Friend to Brew Day at Sweet Meadows is scheduled for Saturday November 5. Chris Cleveland is going to be there at 9:00 a.m. to start his mash, then at noon Todd will assist a newcomer (Matt) with a his beer, Jim will be making a to be determined beer or mead, and Steve will be making a kit beer from his store. Sweet Meadows is to setup a grill with burgers and hotdogs.
- The next fundraiser is to be for the 6th Ward Scholarship fund in the April/May timeframe with categories of light lager, pilsner, or gose.
- There were many, many interesting beers sampled at this meeting including:
- Teresa’s awesome spicy cheese and sausage dip for appetizer
- Chris C.’s Bohemian Pils with Cara Munich
- Jim’s Koelsch with Cara Vienna was very nice
- Chris C. also had a well done Martzen with a hint of biscuit
- Sam presented the most interesting homebrew of the night with version #8 of his P.O.E. (Purity of Essence from Dr. Strangelove) with anise, orange peel, coriander, grains of paradise and just a pinch too much fennel
- Wes brought a treat from his Ommegang archives with the last bottle of 2008 Philosophy Monkey that was a Three Philosophers aged in oak on cocoa nibs. Amazingly dense and complex and simply marvelous.
- Barb and Bob’s Sort of Saison was a pale ale with Belgian yeast. They also had an oatmeal stout made with real oatmeal
- Jesse’s Oatmeal stout with four month’s aging has mellowed over time.
- Wes also brought an aged Boris the Spider Oatmeal Imperial Stout that was contract brewed at Cooperstown Brewing back in the day that smelled like a fine aged Belgian chocolate bar.
- For dessert, Jim and Teresa’s Strawberry Chocolate Porter from a kit, but with a ½ bottle of vodka added was a nice touch.
- Frank and Chris made a cider with cherry two weeks ago that will benefit from aging.
- The next meeting is scheduled for Friday November 18, at the Vet’s Club in Oneonta.
