Meeting was held at My Father’s Place on 3/24/17 at 6:30pm with 11 members in attendance.
Topics of discussion included:
1. 6th Ward Athletic Club charity event was named “HOPS For Athletics”. Chris Cleveland
will be contacting the 6th Ward Club to get their logo and will hopefully get some artwork
drafted up within a week or so. It would be great if we could start putting up posters and
handing out pamphlets the first week of April.
2. Teresa suggested that we have an email sign-up sheet during the event, which we will
have with the HOPS business cards to give out.
3. Chris Cleveland will be setting up an online sign-up for the event. Brewers so far:
a. Chris and Frank
b. Matt Brown
c. Todd
d. Nate?
e. Chris Cleveland
f. Jim (although someone will need to pour for him as he won’t be there)
g. Pete
h. Brian
4. As a reminder, next month’s beer style is going to be Saison. And for those that are going
to do it, May’s style is Kolsch (time is getting short for lagering).
5. We discussed with Jim and Teresa about having a meeting at their house at some point
during the summer. Kind of left it up to them to pick a date (a Saturday?) but there was
also a discussion about maybe inviting or advertising to the Delaware county brewers
that they would also be invited since they live in Delhi.
6. TAP NY is coming up again in April (29th and 30th). More information about this event,
where lots of tastey food is included in the price of admission as well as the 4 hours of
beer tasting, can be found at http://tap-ny.com Another option to attend TAP NY on
Sunday, April 30 is to go on the chartered bus from Binghamton Brewing Company
(http://www.bingbrew.com/gear) which is stopping in Oneonta on the way to the
festival. It costs a little more, but includes the safe bus ride, a Bing Brew t-shirt and
breakfast piazza on the way.
7. There were many, many interesting beers sampled at this meeting including: (a through
d were the Beer of the Month; Irish Red Ale).
a. Commercial example: Ohara’s Irish Red. It was OK.
b. Commercial example: Killian’s Irish Red. Sweeter than the Ohara’s but thinner in
mouth feel.
c. Pete’s Irish Red. Was his second all grain batch and was bottled off a keg.
d. Chris and Frank’s Irish Red. A little darker than would be expected for the style.
Sweet.
e. Jim’s Pilsner. Also darker in color than expected for the style.
f. Jim’s Blueberry Cider. Wonderful blueberry aroma and taste. Made from a kit.
g. Mike’s Cider - Still tastes great. Anxious to see how this changes at champagne
carbonation levels.
h. Nate’s New England IPA (first meeting in about a year, good to see you Nate).
This was great. From what he described though we all would have loved to taste it
fresh.
i. Alden brought some Table Rock Hopper from Roots Brewing Company.
Bitterness is pronounced.
j. Frank brought Arcadia’s Porter Rico (Porter with Coconut). A gentleman Frank
trades beer with said that this is one of the worst beers he has ever had. General
opinion was that we’ve all had better but it probably wasn’t the worst we’ve ever
had.
8. Frank did a technical presentation about the phenomenon commonly known as “chill
haze”. A link for an in-depth discussion from Stone Brewing is:

The April meeting will be held on Friday, April 21 at 6:30 at a to-be-determined location.
