The summertime can be tricky for many of us to attend our HOPS brew meetings, but as the old adage goes, the brew must go on! In the spirit of HOPS being a community organization, we will continue our quest to hold our meetings all around the community. This month’s meeting will be held at Mama Nina’s Pizzeria on the corner of Main and Elm, downtown Oneonta, this Friday June 15 @ 6:30pm (6:00 if you’d like to eat dinner there first).
It still may be a tad early, but members who attended the BBD 3.0: The Faux-hemian Pilsner might have samples to share. If you are bringing this, please remind us which yeast you used, what temperature conditions you fermented and lagered, as well as, any other techniques or ingredients implemented. Many of us are venturing into the land of lagers (some of us for the first time, others due to the season) and would like some clarity on different yeast strain flavors as well as techniques.
If you are bringing samples, remember that we are averaging 30-40 attendees (20-30 during summer). Also, don’t forget:
1. Tasting Glass
2. Tasting Sheet (located on the right margin of the site)
3. 32+ oz. of Samples (if you have any)
4. Your appetite (Nina’s makes a great pie).
Upcoming Events
Each of these items will be continually on our agenda, with the plan to finalize each of these by early Fall.

HOPS Summer Family Cook-Out
A few members voiced a desire in having a summer cook-out for HOPS members and their families. While a few members have significant others who serve as co-brewers and attend our monthly meetings, many of us have family members who remain relatively unknown to the club. (Now, I realize that many of us may prefer this) But if people are interested, let’s discuss the possibility of have a family-friendly cook out this summer. We’ll discuss a date and place, so bring your calendars.
Big Brew Day 4.0
There’s been a few discussions about an upcoming Big Brew Day with all locally grown hops! Several HOPS members have been growing hops on their land for years; some more experienced than others. One suggestion has been to use all locally-grown hops in a Big Brew for us to brew, taste, and discuss. More information about this BBD at this month’s meeting. (Also, be sure to check out pics from BBD 3.5 in May’s Post).
