July Style : Cream Ale: BCJS Style Guideline 1C. Cream Ale: Overall impression: A clean well-attenuated, flavorful American “ lawnmower” beer. Easily drinkable and refreshing, with more character then typical American Lagers. Aroma: Medium-low to low malt notes, with sweet, corn-like aroma. Low levels of DMS are allowable, but not required. Hop aroma medium low to none, and can be of any variety although floral, spicy, or herbal notes are most common. Overall, a subtle aroma with neither hops nor malt dominating.
Samplings (1-5 were Beer of the Month style):
- Genesee Cream Ale: The classic for Upstate NY.
- Matt B.: Jekyll Brewing Co. Mama Pajama, can flavor, more hoppy then Genny, light, watery.
- Jim G. Hazy Days, 5.5 ABV, Mt Hood, flaked corn, table sugar. Very nice, has good flavor
- Frank & Chris: Cream Ale 2019: 10 IBU, 6.2%, Wakatu Hops, very good, well liked, unique flavor-maybe attributed to the hops.
- Wes A.: Creamed Corn: Pilsen Malt, 2#’s corn, tiny amount of Black Patent for color (.005 oz ?) not bad
- Chris C.: Honey Wheat: 5.5% 1# Honey in boil, S06 Yeast, honey came through in the taste.
