Last month’s meeting, we voted on our next charity for the spring Chartity Tasting Contest. The Friends of the Oneonta Theater (FOTOT) won the vote! So, once we can confirm that they are still on board for this event in April (the 20th is our club’s first choice) we can proceed! As mentioned before, this Spring’s Beer Category is: The Pale Ale.
This style should be a perfect complement to a late April season as Spring will be just on the horizon (hopefully!!). This style also is specific enough that the public can compare similar styles of beer, and yet, diverse enough that the tasters won’t always be tasting the exact types of beers. For example the beer styles may include (a) American Pale Ales, (b) English Pale Ales, (c) Belgian Pale Ales, and (d) India Pale Ales. Most of these (Belgian as the exception) will have moderate to a strong hop presence and a lighter color (SRM). Parameters for this year’s contest are as follows:
ABV: < 7%
SRM: < 16
IBUs: no parameters
That said, we will be taking the first 10 entrants who sign up for the contest. Keep in mind that our club is growing, so with 50-ish members, not everyone in the club will be able to brew a batch of beer. This may be a good opportunity to go in with a friend or two.
Please sign up in the comments section with which number you will be (1-10), the names of the brewers involved in the brew, the style of beer you are brewing, and what brilliant name you have come up with for the beer. The first 10 entrants (according to the date, time stamp) will be on the list.
Good luck and cheers!–josh
